Filmmaker Spotlight - Martin Sellers

Filmmaker Spotlight
Martin Sellers
By Matthew Jimenez

Rough Cut would like to recognize Martin Sellers for his outstanding work and achievements.

Matt-

The first time I really got to work with Martin was during a brutal but fun three day weekend for Jay McGee's Senior Project, of which Martin was DP for. Each day was about thirteen hours long. His work is outstanding and beautiful, I have no doubt that Martin will make anything look amazing and meaningful if you give him a camera. I wish you the best man.

I asked Martin why he has chosen film as a medium to express his ideas and creativity.

Martin-
Why Film? Film has always been fun to me, I like playing with lights and camera angles, making crazy contraptions to get the shot, there's always something to be filmed. Plus, who wouldn't like being able to say 'I made that awesome ass movie'?

I asked about some of his inspirations.

Martin-
My biggest influence would probably surfing films like puddles in the sky, a broke down melody, and the September sessions, I try to apply the rhythm and flow of those filming style to narratives.

Then I asked about his favorite filmmakers and films.

Martin-
Favorite filmmaker, don't really have one. I like a lot of them but don't have a favorite.

My favorite film is Mongol, hands down.

Favorite Film

I was curious about his plans for the future.

Martin-
My future plans are become a DP, not so much in the Hollywood scene, travel documentary, and surf films. Now that I've had a small insight to the travel filming world I feel like I could really get into it. Also I've always been big into surfing, if get a crack at a surfing film I know I can make some epics stuff happen.

Here are a few highlights of Martin Sellers work. Check it out.

Special thanks to: Opa from making it all happen
